FG Sacks Nigerian Ports Authority MD

Managing Director, Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Mr . Omar Suleiman
President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday relieved the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority, Mr. Omar Suleiman, of his appointment.
The decision was contained in a statement made available to journalists by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati.

No reason was given for the sacking of the former NPA boss.

According to the statement, Mr. Habibu Abdullahi will take over from Suleiman as the new MD.

  1. Lets hope this re organization will translate to addressing the issues of the 2005-2007 retirees who are currently suffering due to the past managements insensitivity to their plight as regards their severance benefits and the call that they be placed on pension like other civil servants.

Nigeria Ports Authority laid off almost 5000 officers and staff between 2005 and 2007 under the illegal Obsanjo parastatals down sizing exercise,most of them were paid off irrespective of their choice to be put on pension, their over 15 years of service (which normally qualifies one for pension) or the normal civil service condition of service.
    lets hope the new management address this issue with a view to correct this anomaly.
