Kuti Family Unveils FELABRATION Plans


Plans for the 15th edition of the annual ‘Felabration’ music festival have been released.


In a recent media press briefing at the New Afrika Shrine, organizers revealed that this year’s show would be bigger than ever.

According to executives of the show’s planning committee, this year’s show will kick off with the secondary schools debate on Tuesday, October 9, 2012, with the topic ;”Social Media in Africa; Good or Bad” at the Freedom park, Lagos.

Next will be a symposium, the Fela Debates, themed “Corruption and the Generation Next” which holds on Monday, October 15, 2012 coinciding with Fela’s birthday.

Guest speakers at the symposium will include; Michael Veal, widely recognised for his practice in Commercial Dispute Resolution and Regulatory Crime, Nigerian author and Playwright, Seffi Attah, Nigerian author, playwright/ poet and Nobel prize winner, Wole Soyinka, Senior Advocate of Nigeria and activist, Femi Falana, Carlos Moore, ex-governor of Cross River state, Donald Duke, Ben Murray Bruce and many more.

The musical concerts will take place from Tuesday, October 16, 2012 to Sunday, October 21, 2012. Music heavy weights in the Nigerian music industry are billed to perform alongside international acts.

Felabration is a one-week festival, dedicated to the memories of the most influential musician that ever came out of Africa, ‘Olufela Oludotun Anikulapo Kuti’.

He channeled his political struggle through his music, Afrobeat. His music lightened the heart of the oppressed and frightened the establishment who benefited from the inequalities and injustices created by the status quo.
