Debiez Speaks About Her Music and Passion [INTERVIEW]

In this interview, we introduce to you; an beautiful singer, Debiez (born Deborah Oniyide) as she opens up on her love and passion for music and the art of make over.

CAN WE MEET YOU?

I am Deborah Oniyide. My stage name is Debiez; a native of Ogun State, Ilaro Yewa South. I'm from a big family - the sixth child of my parent. I am also a creative artiste.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND

I had my primary and secondary school in Lagos. I studied mass communication at Polytechnic of Ibadan; I graduated in 2009.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN INTO MUSIC?

I have been into music right from my childhood, I belong to a group called 'New Star' and i am the coordinator.

HOW DO YOU GET YOUR INSPIRATION?

I get inspired mostly when I am happy, I don’t drink, and I don’t smoke to get inspired. Whenever I get any inspiration, I write them down and often record them on my phone.

WHAT KIND OF MUSIC DO YOU DO?

I do commercial music; love songs, Gospel and Hip-hop. The first song I did was a gospel song.

SONGS SO FAR

I have 'Because of you,' 'I want you die,' 'I love you and baby boo.' One of the songs is about is about a guy whom I love and I know he loves me as well but he doesn’t want to come out straight, so I am trying to tell him to open up because we both love each other. I am working with ID Cabasa on the tracks.

YOUR MUSICAL INFLUENCES

That would be Céline Dion and Beyoncé.

Iyanya, Davido and Vector.

TELL US THREE THINGS ABOUT YOURSELF

I am a cheerful giver, friendly, and down to earth.

HOW WOULD YOU RATE THE NIGERIAN MUSIC INDUSTRY?

Music in Nigeria is really going far but the problem is that some people are not really passing messages; every song should pass a message. As an artiste in Nigeria, we have to see ourselves as preachers spreading positive messages with our song.

YOUR STYLE OF DRESSING

Wow! My style of dressing is usually funny, sometimes crazy but unique.

ASIDE FROM MUSIC WHAT ELSE DO YOU DO?

I am a dermatologist, a hair stylist, a make-up artist. I have my own beauty outfit. When I am called upon to work,  I'm always on duty because I love what I do. I go with my crew to do the job. I have worked with DJ Tee, Dr. B and a host of others.

WHAT ARE YOUR LIKES?

I love listening to music and writing.

WHAT ARE YOUR DISLIKES?

I have zero tolerance for lazy and fake people.

WHERE DO YOU SEE YOUR SELF IN THE NEXT FIVE YEARS?

Hmmm…. In the next five years; by the grace of God, I see myself going international. I know I'm not a lazy person/. I love to work. I see myself at the top of my game.
