General Overseer Arrested For Armed Robbery


The General Overseer of The Way of Joy Church, Ikotun Egbe, Lagos State, Pastor Ibikunle and his gang members are presently cooling of their heels in the cells of Special Anti Robbery Squad of the Lagos State Police Command.

The suspects were arrested in connection with the March 13, 2013 armed robbery operation at a bureau de change at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos which led to  the killing two policemen while several people sustained different degrees of injury.
Giving a brief on the suspects, the Commissioner of Police in charge of Lagos State Police Command, Umar Manko, said the incident happened at about 7.30pm on March 13, 2013 where robbers went to International Airport, Lagos and killed two policemen who were serving at Apapa command who went to the Airport on official engagement. The dare devil robbers then succeeded in wrecking havoc and carting away huge sums of money in various denominations.

“Before one of the police men was killed he fought gallantly, killing one of the robbers known as Esho and also made sure that other members of the robbery gang were not able to take his corpse away.

“It was that corpse that led to the arrest of other members of the gang after some items were found on it which was used to trace them,” he said.


According to him, the suspects were also said to be the robbers who attacked a Bureau De Change at the same airport in 2012 carting away dollars valued at over N600 million.

Items recovered from the suspects were: five AK47 rifles, four dynamites, two locally made pistols and 64 AK47 magazines which were loaded with 30 rounds.

A Toyota Sienna space bus with registration number BDG 918 AG, two masks and some quantity of charms which were buried by the suspects in an iron box and hid inside the forest at Agoro in Odogbolu Local Government Area of Ogun State were also recovered from them.

The suspects have confessed to the robbery at the airport and several other deadly robberies in Lagos, Ondo, Ogun and Kwara States.

Among the robberry operations are: the  First Bank/Wema Bank armed robbery in Ikirun in Osun State on December 2012; Oro First Bank/Union Bank armed robbery in Kwara State in January 2013; and the Bullion Van armed robbery attack at Odogbolu junction along Lagos Ijebu-Ode Expressway in January 2013.
