Glo X Factor: Onyeka Onwenu Weeps For 12-Year-Old Singing Sensation

Emotions ran high over the weekend when Onyeka Onwenu, Nigeria’s oldest music diva and one of the judges in the world’s biggest music reality TV show, the X Factor brought to Africa for the first time by
Globacom, wept openly.

The incident occurred  during the judges’ audition in Kumasi, which aired on national television in Nigeria and Ghana.

Immediately 12-yr old Emmanuel Mensah ended his superlative performance, singing Whitney Houstin’s “I look to you”, Onyeka, with her eyes welled up in tears, sprang to her feet, applauding and simultaneously beckoning on Emmanuel to come over to her.

Compassionately and adoringly, Onyeka embraced the boy and kissed him on the forehead. “You did something to me that made me cry and they were tears of gratitude to God for someone like you. You will go
places when you come of age. God bless you’, said the diva.

Speaking in the same vein, Ghanaian grandmaster of Hiplife and another judge on the show, Reggie  Rockstone said, “My heart is still thumping. We thank God for people like you.”

Mr. Incredible, MI also adulated Emmanuel’s performance, describing it as one of the best voices he had heard during the auditions.

The three judges lamented that Emmanuel unfortunately fell below the age limit for the show but all voted yes for him symbolically to show him a great future awaits him in music.

Other contestants like Mr. Unknown who came to perform with a group but was singled out for progression because of his amazing capacity to rap and Philipa Attah, made it to the Boot Camp in Lagos. MI and
Onyeka commended Philipa who rendered “Someone like you” by Adele for being focused and committed.
