‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ Hits Franchise Record with $500m

In only its second weekend, 20th Century Fox’s “X-Men: Days of Future Past” has already marked a franchise best, crossing the half billion milestone.

The Bryan Singer-directed superhero pic has pulled in a total of $500.2 million to beat the previous record-holder in the franchise, 2006′s “X-Men: The Last Stand,” which grossed $459.4. “Days of Future Past” reeled in $128.2 million globally this weekend to take the crown, garnering $32.6 million domestically and $95.6 million internationally.
It still has to catch up with three films — “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” “X2: X-Men United” and “X-Men: The Last Stand” — to take the top spot stateside, where it has currently grossed $162.1 million. However, there’s little doubt that it will take that record as well, as analysts were already predicting the film’s franchise dominance.

Singer produced “Days of Future Past” alongside Lauren Shuler Donner, Hutch Parker and screenwriter Simon Kinberg. It cost around $200 million to produce.

The film stars franchise veterans including Hugh Jackman, Jennifer Lawrence, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Peter Dinklage and Halle Berry.
