Baba Suwe regains freedom

Popular Nigerian comic actor, Babatunde Omidina aka Baba Suwe has regained his
freedom after 23 days in the custody of the National Drug Law Enforcement
Agency, (NDLEA).

The comedian was set free this morning (Friday, November 4) as ordered by an
Ikeja High court on bail of N500, 000 and two sureties in the like sum.

Justice Yetunde Idowu had on Tuesday ordered the NDLEA to release the
comedian today if he fails to excrete the suspected drug which the agency
alleged he ingested in his body.

At the resumed hearing this morning, Baba Suwe and his lawyer Mr Babatunde
Aturu narrated excruciating ordeal that the agency made him to go through in
order to force the alleged drug out of his system.

“They took me to a hospital on the Island, when we got there, they put a tube
inside my mouth and another one in my anus. They started pumping water into
my stomach through the anus. That day, I excreted six times and I have since
then been excreting like that on daily basis.” Baba Suwe told the court.

At the end of arguments from both side, NDLEA lawyer agreed that since
Tuesday, nothing incriminating was found on Baba Suwe and he was not against
the release of the comedian.

To this end, the Judge said “Mr. Omidina, you can now go home. I wish you well
and please, take good care of yourself.”

This put to end 23 days of shame and embarrassment for the National Drug Law
Enforcement Agency, NDLEA.

Baba Suwe was on his way to board an Air France flight, last month, to Paris at
the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Lagos when he was
arrested after being allegedly tested positive of drug ingestion by the airport
scanning machine.
