Noah Bastian Reveals Drug Addiction
In 2001, Noah
Bastian was on top of the world in the popular MTV boyband 2gether playing with
Britney Spears and Enrique Iglesias. He had it all -- but the fame disappeared
as quickly as it came.
When his band's MTV
show ended and the band broke up, the money quickly ran out, and Noah's life
fell apart. For the last ten years, Noah's life has spiraled out of control. He
became addicted to drugs and eventually found himself homeless and living on
the streets.
"Drugs
completely robbed him of all his drive and motivation," Noah's older
brother Tyler Bastian told EnStars. "He is an amazing kid who got caught
up in some bad choices while in Hollywood."
Now, Tyler, an
award-winning documentary filmmaker, is taking 2gether fans into Noah's life
today, which is a far cry from 2001, when he was hitting the stage, singing the
band's catchy breakout singles, U + Me = Us (Calculus) and The Hardest Part of
Breaking Up (Is Getting Back Your Stuff). The band 2gether was an American
fictional boy band whose composition, songs, and formation story is a satirical
approach to the boy bands of the 1990s, such as New Kids on the Block, 'N Sync
and Backstreet Boys.
When Noah hit rock
bottom, Tyler
decided to start filming his brother's life as a form of therapy. "I
thought by telling his story, it'd be a cleansing process for him," Tyler revealed, stating
they began filming Noah: Clean, Prison, or Dead several weeks ago.
In the new clip,
Noah -- now 33 and living at home with his parents in Salt Lake City, Utah --
admits to drug use and claims he's ready to turn his life around before he ends
up dead. He is noticeably thinner and not the lively "Chad"
2gether fans may remember seeing a decade ago.
Tyler revealed that when he first
started filming, his younger brother had a relapse. "Now he has been clean
for three weeks. He looks more like the Noah I grew up with," Tyler said.
On Friday, Noah
took to his Facebook page to open up about his addiction.
"Everyone
needs to know that this is hard for me to admit and please, please be gentle
with your messages to me because despite what you think you know of me, I am nothing
more than a human being with feelings and emotions who is asking for nothing
from anyone," Noah said.
He continued:
"This is a project that will help me and so many others and open people's
eyes up to this epidemic our world faces called drug addiction!!!! This is
something that has taken me years to realize [and is] the reason I am the shell
of a person I used to be! Please if u have something to say to me, please make
it hopeful and loving!! Today has been hard for me so please, keep it civil and
know that once again, I'm a person with feelings!"
Tyler along with film director Tim
Skousen plan to document Noah's journey to recovery and have started a
Kickstarter to fund the documentary.
"Our goal is
to tell Noah's story and shine a light on what quick fame mixed with drugs can
do to an aspiring artist. We want to follow him on his journey as he tries to
get his life back on track; documenting the struggles and triumphs of a
recovering addict," the Kickstarter page reads. "There's a lot at
stake in this project. This story has the potential to save Noah's life. And
could even help save the lives of others who are struggling with addiction as
well."
