Mayweather Challenges 50 Cent to Donate $750,000 to Michael Brown’s Family

Until now, it’s been a mostly one-sided beef regarding 50 Cent and Floyd Mayweather, Jr.
The boxing champ has largely kept to himself regarding the situation, outside of a few posts on social media. Now it’s his turn to speak.

Mayweather used his media day in Las Vegas to take a mature stance on his former friend’s recent actions against him. 50 Cent has generated talk and headlines since highlighting Mayweather’s troubles with reading. So much so that the rapper issued a “ALS/ESL challenge” to donate $750,000 to charity if Mayweather could successfully read a passage from a Harry Potter book.

Rather than take 50 up on the challenge, the boxer posted pictures of two recent checks in response.
In directly addressing his former friend, Mayweather reflected on the relationship between them, saying, “I think it is safe to say that I was his real friend but he wasn’t my real friend.

“A lot of times, because of our upbringing we tend to not be loyal or happy. And when we’re not happy we don’t want to see other people happy.”

“I wish 50 Cent nothing but the best,” Mayweather continued. “I don’t know if he’s still making music. The last time I checked he was a boxing promoter but I still wish him nothing but the best.”

With 50 Cent still in mind, Mayweather shifted gears a bit to address the civil unrest in Ferguson, MO following the death of Michael Brown. Despite not providing a concrete way to go, Mayweather did touch on the need for the community to work together to find a solution to the growing trend of police brutality.

As for 50, Mayweather went ahead and reversed the rapper’s original challenge to benefit Brown’s family.

“I was thinking about something when you asked me about 50 Cent,” Mayweather told the reporter, who asked. “If you really want to donate money, how about you donate money to Michael Brown’s family?”
“I shouldn’t stop you (from donating money to charitable organizations),” continued Mayweather. “Our company has been donating hundreds of thousands of dollars to different organizations for years without looking for the media attention. The best thing for 50 Cent to do is to donate the $750k to Michael Brown’s family.”

And the challenge has been issued. The question is will 50 take Mayweather up on his challenge or will the G-Unit general surrender. Any predictions?
