Nollywood Diva, Ini Edo is one actress who has always been in the eye of the storm.

An acting career that kicked off precisely ten years ago has left her with her fair share of high points, memorable moments, controversies, scandals and so many other episodes that she would rather relegate to the shallowest corners of her memory.

Perhaps the only item in her hall of experiences that outnumbers her frequency of dealing with controversies would be the number of movies she has featured in. Within ten years, Ini Edo has played prominent roles in well over 50 Nollywood movies and the statistics don’t appear to be waning anytime soon given her acting prowess.

Amidst all the acclamation and condemnation she has garnered over the years, one thing that has always remained constant is her resolve to keep her head up, shoulders squared, fists clenched and knuckles up as she hits back hard at the barrage of challenges, criticisms and hurdles that she has had to contend with year after year.

Interestingly, one of the loudest moments in her career remains her decision to walk down the isle with her sweetheart, Philip Ehiagminah in a marriage ceremony that many had initially written off as another one of the actress’s fairy tale stunts.

However, Ini Edo shocked her detractors and wowed her fans when she waved goodbye to spinsterhood and became Mrs. Ini Edo Ehiagminah.

Like a school girl falling in love for the first time, Ini Edo still appears to be basking in the euphoria of excitement that her marriage appears to have wrapped her in. If her outward disposition towards her husband stands on the same scale with the genuine emotional situation of her marriage, then Ini Edo might perhaps emerge one of Nollywood’s happiest wives.

It was in this light that the sexy actress dotted on her husband during the recent premiere of her movie, Memories of My Heart.

Speaking about how much joy and satisfaction she derives from her husband, the actress recently revealed to HiLIFE that her husband remains one of the best things to ever happen to her.

Expressing her ecstasy, she exclaimed, “My husband is hot” as she opened a window into how she strikes a perfect balance between her work and her responsibilities as a loving and caring wife.

In addition, she equally expressed her appreciation to her husband, dad, mum and members of her family for their immeasurable support for her movie, ‘Memories of My Heart,’ which was recently premiered in Ikoyi in Lagos

“It’s been fantastic. I had my whole family (dad, mum and husband) out for the premiere of my movie. They’ve been supporting me. Whenever I look around myself, I realize that I am doubly blessed. My husband is a hot, fine young man. He is very supportive of his wife,” she enthused.

Speaking on her movie, Ini Edo delved into the film’s synopsis which had themes of love, persistence, choice and doggedness written all over it.

“Starring Ramsey Nouah, Ini (herself), Uche Jombo, Nse Ikpe-Etim, Koffi Adjorlolo, Monalisa Chinda, Desmond Elliot, Memories of My Heart was co-produced with Emem Isong and tells the story of Halle, an aspiring actress who had attended several auditions without getting a role. She finally gets her chance when she claims to be the fiancĂ©e of an oil magnate, Bankole Da Silva whom she has never met. She’s given the role on the condition that Bankole funds the movie. Halle now struggles to get out of the web she has spun for herself. Just as Halle gets Bankole’s attention, Bankole suffers a terrible accident leaving him with amnesia. Dr. Dammie, a female doctor nurses him back to health and into her waiting arms. As the relationship deepens, Halle re-appears on the scene throwing Bankole into a state of confusion.”

With a feat like ‘Memories of My Heart,’ quite a number of her fans would naturally wonder aloud whether she intends to venture into more movie productions anytime soon and to this, Ini Edo replied in one word, “Hopefully.”

Given the number of movies she has featured in coupled with her achievements as an actress, another actress might be tempted to spread her wings of contentment and begin casting her professional sights elsewhere. Ini Edo however makes it clear that she does not fall into this category as she declared that her marriage was not the only thing she was eternally committed to.

“Never! I’m never going to quit acting,” she clearly pointed out.

Following the successful premiere of her movie, Ini Edo revealed plans to take the movie, Memories of my Heart into the U.K as well as some states in the United States.

Efforts to put a precise figure to the budget for the movie met a brick wall when Ini Edo expressed her preference for keeping that under wraps noting that she was still spending.

“It’s a lot of money but I can’t say precisely because I’m still spending.”

Reacting to the applause of viewers after the premiere, the dark-skinned actress couldn’t conceal her excitement as she said, “Ohhh… I’m glad. I’m excited and I’m grateful to God and to everyone who has contributed positively to the film. I’m very glad and it’s actually very encouraging.

Like anyone dabbling into a particular terrain for the first time, Ini Edo also had her fears and doubts as regards the level of acceptance her film would draw.

“I had fears especially when I considered the fact that this was my first project outside acting.”

Asked how it feels joining the ranks of female producers, she lit up with joy and said, “Anything that is worth doing is worth doing well. I feel great.”

She also affirms that Nollywood movies are gradually stepping into the global scene on a proper footing.

“Definitely! We’re always working with those who have a passion for the movies to see how we can continue to make it better,” she said.

Sporting a beautiful yellow gown, the equally gorgeous actress confessed her love for bright colours. “I don’t have a particular colour that I consider my favourite but I love bright colours.”

The premiere of Ini Edo’s Memories of My Heart

Despite the fact that the venue was tucked away in the heart of Ikoyi in Lagos, it provided a quiet space away from the noisy flow of traffic, the loud automobile horns and other peculiar distractions.

The red carpet definitely lacked nothing in colours as singers, actors, actresses and a good number of celebrities stepped onto the red carpet in different shades of colours that would have made a rainbow green with envy.

However, the dimension of the space accorded for the red carpet appeared inadequate for the traffic of celebrities and guests on it. As expected, words like crowded and packed aptly painted a picture of the red carpet as celebrities could hardly avoid bumping into one another with streams of apologies from this person and that person.

The organizers however ensured that there was more than enough to eat and drink especially while the red carpet lasted. Irrespective of their choice of drinks; mild or fiery, all were in steady supply.

Like most events, the event began way behind schedule but delivered on its promise to thrill when guests were ushered in to the hall.

Ini Edo might have expected to pull an impressive rabbit out of her hat by arriving at the event with the sirens of her convoy blaring loudly but she clearly set a good number of tongues wagging in the wrong direction for pulling such a noisy stunt.

While Stella Damasus thrilled with her sonorous voice as she sang away, rising singer, Slam also kept members of the audience on their toes with his comic side and musical interludes.

Just like the space accorded to the red carpet, the hall initially appeared well spaced to accommodate guests but this proved not to be the case as the night progressed. At a point, quite a number of guests had no choice but to remain on their feet at the end of the hall.

At different intervals, drinks and light refreshments were spread to every inch and corner of the hall.

One point of the event that will remain evergreen in Ini Edo’s pool of memories was the moment when the premiere of the movie came to an end. She might had her fears but the audience put long line of happiness on her face and the chocolate-skinned actress could hardly cease smiling in happiness as the crowd cheered her brilliant performance.
