There was a recent buzz over the activities of the Nigeria Drug law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) within the Nigerian entertainment industry.

According to the reports, the government-owned drug-fighting agency was reportedly considering whether or not to file an official case against award-winning singer, 2 Face Idibia over they termed his blatant admittance to using banned substance; specifically marijuana.

It was noted that in one of 2 Face’s recent interviews with Yes! A Nigerian-owned weekly magazine, the singer confessed that he once used marijuana though not for the purpose many might assume.

He explained that he had not taken it to boost his confidence on stage, rather, he had merely taken it for relaxationm. He added that he ceased using it because of how it made him feel afterwards.

“I have never tried cocaine or heroine but I've done marijuana before. But I never took it to go on stage. It was just for relaxation purpose. Eventually I knew marijuana wasn't for me, so I stopped. Because it makes me feel like I am in another world. I stopped using it a couple of years ago. It wasn't difficult stopping. It was just craziness that introduced me to marijuana. You know how youth energy used to push one into things like that. In those days I used to listen to songs like 'Rolling down the street smoking'. All those songs can influence, if you want to be influenced. It is not for me to advise musicians not to write or sing about drugs,” 2 Face had said in the interview.

The NDLEA, we learnt, do not however share the singer’s remorse and might be bring a case against the multi-award-winning act.

We further gathered that the NDLEA are taking a look at the Nigerian jurisprudence to determine whether a crime has been committed, whether statutes of limitations apply in the situation and whether 2 Face can be called as a witness against himself.

There’s yet to be any official voice to the report as NDLEA authorities could not be reached as at press time.
