OPC denies rumoured attack on Northerners
By Samod Biobaku
Following unconfirmed reports that had earlier been
circulating the internet and other social media network platforms about an
imminent attack on Northerners residing in Lagos by members of the Oodua Peoples
Congress (OPC), the leader of the group, Otunba Gani Adams had absolved the
group from any such attack on innocent Nigerians.
The purported message surfaced shortly past mid-day on
January 8, 2012 and ever since, it spread like fire all over smart phones,
Blackberry devices, the internet and many other social media networking
websites like Facebook, Twitter and the likes.
The report was allegedly said to be a retaliatory move
towards Nigerians of the Yoruba tribe who were recently killed in some Northern
states in the country.
However, in his reaction to the alleged plan for revenge, he
said, “We have no such plan. At this very moment, I am out of the country to
attend the inauguration of the Oodua Progressive Union (OPU) in Ireland and to also be a recipient of an award
in the United Kingdom.
Oodua a gbe wa o.”
