Thumbs up for BANKY W
By Samod Biobaku
To say that I was surprised to see award-winning
singer, Banky W leading a group of protesters in Lagos on January 3, 2012 would be an
understatement.
Like many, I do not have a personal
relationship with the star artiste but I have never imagined a Banky W shedding
that ‘fine boy’ poise to hit the streets of Lagos on a hot afternoon to decry the removal
of oil subsidy by President Goodluck Jonathan.
This however took nothing away from
the singer’s brave stand in the face of injustice.
I can imagine that the Banky W
could have chosen to pop a bottle of champagne or two, lounge all day or just
spend some time in the studio doing what he does bet; music on a day his fellow
Nigeria.
However, he clearly did not
consider these logical options in the light of national developments on the first
three days of 2012.
I hereby join millions of Nigerians
at home and in the Diaspora in giving Banky W a solid ‘THUMBS-UP’ for his brave
stand.
Ħª√ę always liked banky W. Buh dis made Nigerians dove deir heart for him.
