Giant whale shark found unconscious

Try telling someone you caught this 40ft fish that is as big as a whale - because they're unlikely to believe you.

But that's exactly what a group of fishermen will be saying after landing this monster from the deep in the Arabian Sea, Daily Mail reported.

Pictures emerged on Wednesday of the giant whale shark being reeled in and brought to port in the Pakistani city of Karachi.

Crowds gathered to catch a glimpse of the beast, believed to be one of the biggest ever caught, as it was hauled out of the water at Charai Fishery.

Two cranes were initially brought in to pull the carcass of the eight-tonne shark out of the water, but that failed, so another crane was brought in to complete the task.

The shark was spotted floating unconscious in the sea 10 days ago, around 90 miles away from shore.

The largest confirmed whale shark was 41ft long but it is thought they can grow to considerably greater lengths.

The shark is found in tropical waters and lives for around 70 years.

There were people interested to buy the dead fish for a possible exhibition, minting money from the visitors.

The bid surged to 1.7 million PKR and was later sold for a considerably lesser price by the Karachi Fish Harbour Authority, which triggered a controversy later in the day.

Earlier on Tuesday, the giant whale shark washed over the shores of the busy port, pulling in hordes of local people.

According to News Pakistan, the giant fish, weighing around seven metric tonnes, was the centre of attraction of hundreds of people who gathered to catch a glimpse of the creature for the first time.
