SSS Dismisses Two Operatives For Armed Robbery
State Security Service has dismissed two of its officials for their alleged involvement in armed robbery in Akure, Ondo State.
The two operatives – Owolabi Kolawole and Okunola Kayode have already been handed over to the police.
A statement by the SSS Deputy Director, Media and Public Relations, Marilyn Ogar, in Abuja on Tuesday said the men committed the offense on June 14.
The statement read, “The service was alerted to the involvement of two of its auxiliary staff in an illegal operation in Akure, Ondo State, on June 14, 2012
“After a preliminary investigation by the service, Owolabi Kolawole and Okunola Kayode were handed over to the Police for further investigation and prosecution since their acts bordered on criminality.
“Subsequently, in line with the service terms and conditions, they have since been dismissed from service.”
But an online news medium, Premium Times reported that the two personnel had been arraigned before an Akure Chief Magistrate’s Court for armed robbery and remanded in prison.
They were reportedly arraigned before Chief Magistrate, Igbekele Akinyele, on two counts of conspiracy and armed robbery.
The officers were said to have committed the offence with others now at large at UBA on Owo/Ado Road, Akure.
The police accused them of robbing a car dealer, Peter Denis, of N480,000.
The offence, the police said, is contrary to and punishable under Section 402 (1) of the Criminal Code cap 30 Vol. II laws of Ondo State, 1978.
The accused pleaded not guilty.
