'If This Is Charlyboy, Then He Needs To have His Head Examined' - Nigerians React To Brutalising of Photojournalist Over Dana Victims Photos

When the name Areafather is mentioned in the Nigeria's social media circle, the name that promptly comes to mind is that of former President, Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN) and singer, Charlyboy as the name has always been considered his monicker.

It was on this very premise that some online users took offense to a comment posted on the website of PUNCH newspaper by a reader with the name, 'Areafather.'

The comment was a reaction to an article published by PUNCH titled: '
Dana Air crash victims relatives, mortuary attendants brutalise photojournalist.'

Picture of the brutalised photojournalist, Mr. Benedict Nwalaka of Leadership newspaper

The comment by 'Areafather' read thus: "I like this news, they should av done more damage on them!!!!!"

In reaction to this, Simply Samad sampled the impulse of some social media users on this comment while a few supported Areafada's comment, majority described it as uncalled for especially from one in Areafather's position in media circles. One of these read (from a source who craved anonymity):

"If this is Charlyboy, then he truly needs to have his head examined. For crying out loud, the photojournalist was merely out to do his job. Except he did something else, which we have not been told, then it is his journalistic responsibility to get pictures from any event. The event was not a happy one but if they were not assaulted when they were capturing images from the Dana crash, which we all looked at and even saved then why now?"

However, the most integral question in all of this is if the comment genuinely originated from Charlyboy or just another random reader with the same monicker?

We posed the question to Charlyboy but as at the time of writing this piece, he was yet to respond.

We'll keep you posted with updates especially on whether the comment originated from Charlyboy or not so let's not be in a hurry to pull the trigger of condemnation just yet.
