Nigerians Await CBN's N5,000 Note With Faces of 3 Historical Women Leaders

Margaret Ekpo         Funmilayo Ransome Kuti        Hajiya Gambo
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is on the verge of introducing the N5, 000 note in circulation as this was announced earlier today.
As expected, Nigerians eagerly look forward to the arrival of the new note.

However, contrary to speculations that the currency would carry the face of late former President, Umar Musa Yar'adua, the note would permanently carry the faces of three late prominent Nigerian female activists.

The N5, 000 is expected to get its official launch in 2013.

The women, whose faces would appear on the new note are:

1. Margaret Ekpo: Late politician and social mobilizer (1914 - 2006)

2. Hajia Gambo Sawaba: Late politician and activist (1933 - 2001)

3. Funmilayo Kuti: Late politician and women's right activist (1900 -1978)

In addition, the CBN also plans to convert the N5, N10 and N20 notes into coins in 2013.
