One Reason The Samsung Galaxy Note Beats an iPad

Samsung's Galaxy Note 10.1 is easier to repair than the Apple Ipad, teardown experts at Ifixit have revealed.
It might have arrived just last week, but the Ifixit team has been quick to give the tablet the full teardown treatment. Doing so has revealed that the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is held together by a combination of clips and screws, as opposed to Apple's technique of using lots of glue to strengthen its Ipad. Some adhesive is used in the Galaxy Note 10.1, but its use is described as necessary by Ifixit.

"We like the combination of screws and clips," the Ifixit team said. "The screws are enough of a hassle to keep out meddling kids, but will by no means deter anyone who needs to fix anything inside."

Unlike the Apple Ipad, the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 doesn't have its LCD screen fixed to the front glass, which makes it easy to remove and replace. Upon opening the device up, the teardown experts found that different components are connected to the mainboard using separate connectors, which will also reduce repair costs.

"Having a lot of connectors is a huge boon for repairability. When components can be easily accessed and removed, repairs are much easier," Ifixit reported.

The dock connector can be removed easily too, Ifixit revealed, saying, "Just like all of the components that we disconnected in the first few steps, the dock connector can be removed by simply detaching a connector and unscrewing a pair of screws. More points for repairability!"

Overall, Ifixit scored the Samsung Galaxy Note as 8/10 for repairability, compared to the meagre 2/10 score it gave the Ipad 3.
