Woman Drags Hubby to Court For Being Poor [DIARY]

I once attended a court proceeding where a woman openly accused her husband of being poor and went as far as asking the court to dissolve her marriage.

Finally fed up of listening to her husband’s lamentations about being poor, a certain Mrs. Juliana Ayodeji Ojo has asked a Lagos court to do her a favour by severing her matrimonial ties with the man.

Stating her case before a Lagos court, Mrs. Ayodeji frankly told the court that she just couldn’t afford to continue to live with a man who was always complaining of not having money.
In the divorce suit, where she asked the court to dissolve her marriage, she explained that her husband had over the years, proven to be a very irresponsible man.

She further informed the court that one of the things she regrets in life was getting married to him.

Her major grouse with her one-time sweetheart remains the fact that the man always has problems when it comes to the issue of providing money to cater for the family.

“Since I married him, he has never taken good care of me. I initially thought it was the strain of getting married, which would soon fade away but I was wrong. For a very long time now, he’s always complaining of being broke. I’ve come to realize that he doesn’t take me seriously.”

Besides his pitiable financial status, she also reeled out several other reasons why she couldn’t continue with the marriage. One of such was the man’s alleged cold and uncaring attitude towards her. She went on to describe him as one of the meanest men she had ever encountered.

“Even when I was pregnant, he totally neglected me. After I put to bed, my stomach was still very big and the doctors advised me to stay back at the hospital. Can you believe that my husband insisted that I should be discharged? Even when the doctor explained to him that I would die if I was discharged, he just didn’t seem to be bothered.”

She added that but for God’s intervention through her aunt, she would most likely have kicked the bucket.
“It was my aunt who came to my aid at the hospital. After the surgical operation, which cost N45, 000, I had to live with my aunt for seven months.

In addition to all these, she also noted that the man was fond of cursing her as well as threatening her life. “There’s no more love between us. There’s no care whatsoever. He’s always harassing me and we don’t even trust each other anymore. I’m just fed up with the whole thing.”

Buttressing her sister’s claim, the woman’s sister, Mrs. Lovina Uche told the court that the man was indeed notoriously irresponsible.

“He acts very irresponsible. Those who know him know this. He doesn’t cater for his wife’s needs at all. She runs to me whenever she has problems and I make sure I try my best for her.

In his reaction, the husband, Mr. Ojo Ayodeji however took a saintly stance. “I’ve not laid a finger on her since I married her.”

Despite the odds, he told the court that he was still madly in love with the woman. “My love for her hasn’t faded one bit,” he said.

Recognising the element of hope in the man’s assertion, the court president adjourned the matter to a later date to enable the man make re-conciliatory moves.
