Anchor Baby Arrives on DVD

The multiple award winning Nigerian thriller, ‘Anchor Baby’ is now out on DVD. The movie so far, has proven to be one of Nollywood’s highest grossing movies of 2010 and beyond.

The DVD release will avail all movie lovers, fans of the Anchor Baby movie and people who did not get the chance to see the movie while it was showing in cinemas in Nigeria, Europe and America the opportunity to see the movie again.

The movie starring Omoni Oboli, Sam Saprong, Terri Oliver, amongst other international stars tells the story of a married Nigerian couple, Joyce and Paul, expecting a child who have been living undocumented in the United States, and then ordered to leave the country by the U.S immigration. They decide that they will leave, but only after Joyce delivers her baby in the United States to guarantee automatic U.S. citizenship for their child.

The movie which was shot in Canada and made close to 18million naira in box office was named the best Nollywood movie in the UK Cinema. The movie which was screened twice in Port Harcourt due to popular demand, hit Cinemas across the Country, a day after it premiered at the Silverbird Galleria. It immediately experienced high Media frenzy and was supported by Media Organizations like Beat FM, Kennis Music, Bella Naija, City People, amongst others.

Speaking of the movie, the producer Lonzo Nzekewe described it as “a miscarriage of justice and the height of crime against humanity in the western world”. He went ahead by saying “one thing that really inspired me into writing this story, is the fact that Anchor baby as a term is a really strong issue in the United States and I wanted to tell a story to put a face to who these people are and what they go through”.

The movie has gathered a lot of international attention as it won a lot of awards both internationally and locally. It won the award for Best Feature Film at the 2010 Harlem international Film Festival, the Best Screenplay at the 2010 Los Angeles Movie Awards, the Golden Palm Award at the 2010 Mexico International Film Festival, the Award of Excellence at the 2010 Canadian International Film Festival and so many other awards. 

The DVD is distributed by Dioni Vision Limited, copy is sold for just N500 each and is available in stores and film houses nationwide and contains special behind the scene footage. It is also available in Europe and North America.
