Man Pays $1.5million to Sit Next to Leonardo DiCaprio
One lucky auction
bidder has managed to snag a trip to space with Leonardo DiCaprio.
The trip was
offered as part of the amfAR Cinema Against AIDS charity auction and dinner at
the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc in Antibes,
France during
the Cannes Film Festival. Set up by Harvey Weinstein, the package includes a
trip on Sir Richard Branson's Virgin Galactic with the Great Gatsby star,
according to omg!.
However, the
bidder, who shelled out $1.5 million to clinch the deal, had no idea what Hollywood star they would be traveling with. The item was
put up for auction as "once-in-a-lifetime trip to space with a mystery
guest," according to The Hollywood Reporter.
"We're going
to get someone to bid on a seat next to him," Weinstein told The Hollywood
Reporter of the full deal before Thursday night's event.
The out-of-this-world
trip will take place in 2014, according to the Los Angeles Times. To secure a
seat on a Virgin Galactic flight, it currently costs customers a $200,000
deposit.
Other items up for
auction included two more seats on the same flight (which sold for $2.3
million) and an "Oscars Experience." The Hollywood Reporter states
that DiCaprio was in attendance at the event when the sale took place.
