AfricaMagic Sets New Record, Screens 45 New Films in a Month

In what has gone down as a remarkable feat in the Nigerian entertainment movie circle, AfricaMagic has followed up on its decision to screen not one, not two, but 45 new movies in one month and has tagged this initiative ‘Awesome April.’

It should be recalled that in September 2013, AfricaMagic announced the creation of its AfricaMagic Original Films (AMOF) initiative; an ambitious project that would see the pioneering brand invest to create dozens of brand new films.

Just a month later, in October 2013, the first of these titles were screened on DStv and what followed was the decision to exclusively debut 45 new movie titles.

Scheduled to run in two parts throughout April 2014, DStv audiences were given the opportunity to see a superb line-up of new AfricaMagic Original Films every weekend on AfricaMagic.

The DStv channels ensured that weekend viewing stayed vibrant by screening movies on a daily basis.
Some of the movies screened and the actors involved include ‘Tomorrow’ (starring Genard Brian Ogola and Henry Ngogoyo), ‘Maid’ (starring Doris Simeon and Damilare Kuku), ‘Anita’ (Wole Ojo and Cecilia Agu) and ‘Stereotype’ (Sylvia Oluchi andRina Daffy Monayajo).

Others are Louisa Sialo and WanjikuMburu in ‘Miss Detective,’ Ivie Okujaye in ‘The Top Spot,’ Chris Attoh in ‘Stray Thoughts,’ Ashionye Michelle Raccah and Kenneth Okolie in ‘Bump,’ Josh Mwai in ‘Clandestine’ and Wale Adebayo in ‘11AM,’ Lizz Njagah in ‘Drift Beyond Conscience’ and Daniel Kanayo Daniel in ‘MatchMaker’ amongst others.

Speaking on AMOF, M-Net Regional Director, Wangi Mba-Uzouwku said, “It’s truly an Awesome April. At AfricaMagic, we’re passionate about our film initiative, which is also the very first of its kind for our brand. What better way to celebrate it, and to thank our loyal audiences for their highly valued support, than by packaging these titles into an unforgettable month of movie entertainment! This project is deeply special to us because it showcases the incredible diversity of stories and talent that abound across this continent. We will continue to invest in creating, commissioning and acquiring home grown programming for all of our eight channels that is relevant and entertainment for our audiences.”
