New ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ Trailer Finally Shows Off Quicksilver

In March, a then-new trailer for X-Men: Days of Future Past gave us a look at things to come in the soon-to-be-released continuation of not only the X-Men: First Class film but also the original X-Men trilogy and The Wolverine. With that much plot to weave together, fans can look forward to what will surely be a lengthy film — the two most recent films in the franchise both lasted more than two hours.

The previous trailer gave us a good look at what the newest film had in store for us. Between one of the X-Men’s greatest threats — the sentinels — and an ensemble cast of mutants, the action is sure to be intense, and the plot long and winding. With a future war raging on between the sentinels, X-Men, and what may be the entirety of mankind, there will be plenty in the future storyline to keep fans on the edge of their seats. The past storyline appears as though it will be dealing with everything from the JFK assassination to the Vietnam War — not to mention potentially having its own line of sentinels — so there will be even more to keep everyone entertained.

The latest trailer, seen up top, gives us an even greater taste of the action coming May 23. Wolverine will not only be going back in time to convince a young and wounded Charles Xavier that he needs to return to action, but he will have to assemble a team that is seen to include the ferocious and blue Beast and the until-now mostly unseen Quicksilver, whose superhuman speed appears vital in rescuing the imprisoned Magneto.

The past storyline looks like it will follow Wolverine as he brings together Xavier, Magneto, and a larger team to take on the less-developed threat of sentinels in order to prevent the far-more-developed threat of future sentinels. The future sentinels are seen in the second official trailer as succumbing to fire and ice blasts from Pyro and Iceman, but the latest trailer shows them overcoming these attacks and even knocking Colossus flat on his back.

Despite a jam-packed ensemble cast, one member of the X-Men we aren’t likely to see in the film is Remy LeBeau — or Gambit. Though this might disappoint fans of the less-than-perfect hero, the reason he won’t be likely to appear in the film may be more satisfactory. Rumors have cropped up suggesting that a Gambit spin-off might be in the works.

The Mirror reports that actor Channing Tatum has met with Lauren Shuler Donner, an X-Men producer, about the possibility of starring as Gambit in a spin-off focused directly on the Cajun ladies’ man. Tatum has said, “I’m already working on the accent.” Though he admitted, “It’s crappy at the moment.” Well known for being a movie hunk, Tatum might be a good choice for the role, and he seems eager to do the character justice, stating, “Gambit is really the only X-Man I’ve ever loved,” due to his Southern upbringing.

Assuming all goes well with the upcoming film, we can expect even more from the X-Men franchise, as X-Men: Apocalypse has been announced and will likely be bringing director Bryan Singer and writer Simon Kinberg back on.
