'Underworld' Reboot in the Works

The vampire craze rages on. A reboot of the popular vampire action franchise Underworld is currently in the works.

The series, which pitted vampires against werewolves and starred Kate Beckinsale as the strong vampire Selena, has earned $458.2 million since the first movie premiered in 2003. Three films followed, including 2012's Awakening, a 3D flick, which was the biggest earner of them all, bringing in $160 million worldwide.

Writing the reboot's screenplay will be Corey Goodman, who recently wrote the upcoming Vin Diesel fantasy adventure movie, The Last Witch Hunter. Tom Rosenberg and Gary Lucchesi will return to produce the film for Lakeshore Entertainment.

It is not clear whether Kate Beckinsale will reprise the role of Selena, the character that propelled her to action film stardom. When asked about a fifth installment during a 2012 interview with Collider, Beckinsale said, "I think it's probably unlikely that I'll do one, but they may do one without me."

Rumor has it that India Eisley, who played Eve in Awakening, may take the lead in the new film, which is reportedly titled Underworld: Next Generation.
