Maryam Usman Wins Nigeria's First Olympic 2012 Medal
Nigeria won its first medal at the 2012 Olympics holding in London as Maryam Usman registered the country's name on the medals table.
Winning a bronze medal from the weightlifting event, she put a dash of relief on millions of hearts that had thrown in the towel on the possibility of the country picking up any medal from the global sporting event.
On the contrary, Nigeria had earlier been in high hopes after Blessing Okhagbare came first at the heats to qualify for finals of the 100 meters race, but placed last and further dashed the nation's hope of clinching medal.
